Shift Happens. Globalization and the Information Age.

Here is a terrific YouTube video (6:05) that gives a great view of the changes the internet is bringing and also a look at the global environment. Really, it’s not as boring as I just made it sound LOL.

In it you learn that…

  • There are 2.7 billion Google searches every month (hmm… wonder how many I’m responsible for?)
  • There are 5 times more English words now than in Shakespeare’s time.
  • The top 10 jobs in demand in 2010 didn’t exist in 2004.

Christian YouTube?

Under YouTube By fullair

We’ve all seen YouTube and the dozens of YouTube knock-offs that have sprung up, but has you seen http://e-zekiel.tv/? E-Zekiel.tv is trying to reach the church audience and offer YouTube-like services targeted at the church sites hosted on its web servers at: http://axletreemedia.com. From what I can tell they have no staying power in the industry.

What traits do you think are necessary in a successful YouTube competitor?

My list includes:

  • Valid profit-making strategy (ads don’t do it for me)
  • Sustainable user-base
  • Niche market

YouTube- The Future of Marketing

Under YouTube By moyerjl1

To be honest, I dont know that much about youtube.  I have never posted a video nor would I even have the slightest clue on how to do so.  However, what I do know is that i have spent countless nights searching through all the latest videos that my friends have recommended or that I have been curious about.  Between watching movie scenes, the lastest music videos, or just watching a hilarious videos about a baby biting his brothers finger, youtube is an amazing resource that like facebook is another form of web 2.0 networking.  But how can this service benefit companies from a business standpoint?

Youtube is an amazing web site because it draws from viewers all over the world.  Knowing that millions of users from all over the world are visiting the youtube everyday, it would make sense from a business standpoint to get on the train.  While I dont know much about the inner workings of youtube, it just makes sense that marketing on youtube could be an efficient, affordable, and effective way of doing business.  I dont mean just by displaying a series of commercials that nobody would have any interest in, but by being more creative.  If i were in charge of marketing for a company, I would take time to understand the target market of the company and then find out what this market is watching on youtube.  For instance, some of the videos I have watched have had millions of people viewers since its opening.  I dont know but it would make senese to me to try to work out some sort of deal in which the makers of the video could market a certain product or service in future videos knowing that a lot of people are going to visit the site.

Like facebook, myspace, ebay,  youtbue is one of the many web 2.0 sites that looks like it is here to stay.  Denying the potential oppurtunity that youtube offers would be unwise from a business standpoint.  I believe that youtube is only going to grow, and it is the future of marketing and adevertising online.

The changing face of Youtube

My initial perception of Youtube is not one notable and current political news. I see it as a glorified waste of time. However, I eagerly offer my free time to Youtube if it means a good laugh. Nonetheless, I fear the site does not have the reputation to broadcast serious and important events. Take, For example, the Republican and Democratic Debates for the upcoming presidential election. By posting the debates on Youtube, people are able to blog their opinions and even have access to video footage to make new videos. But, how many people abuse these advantages? Most people do not post efficient and respectable blogs and do not make appropriate videos.

While I do see the benefits of a cheap and convenient national broadcast, I think this method cheapens the credibility of the debates and almost makes a mockery of it. One writer criticized the youtube debates by describing them as, “almost like watching Jerry Springer.” I tooned in to view some of the debates, and I could never get a way from the fact that I was watching them on Youtube, the place where I’m subject to finger-bitting babies and kidney-stealing unicorns.

In conclusion, if Youtube wants to take a more focused news broadcasting path, they should open a new site with this goal in mind. One which targets more politically informed audiences with constructive criticism to offer.

YouTube - “recreations”

Under YouTube By wileyjb1

I will admit to being an avid fan of youtube.  There have been numerous videos that I have enjoyed immensely and shared with my friends (sometimes ones that I have watched a lot more than once).

But I (and I know other people that have) been frustrated when something original is uploaded, YouTube addicts like myself discover them, spread the link to that video, and then what happens?  Immediately 50 other people “recreate” that video.  So then you look to find it again, but when you type in the same tags, you have a hard time finding that particular video.

I guess I am curious - is there a solution to this?  I know that the appeal of YouTube and other similar sites is the fact that anyone can upload movies/etc. that they want to.  But i think that if the duplication of videos could somehow be regulated it would make the experience of navigating the site less frustrating.

YouTube: How to sell yourself

Under YouTube By hunner88

This summer I worked for a company that was pretty early with online marketing.  So when I started working for them I submitted their site to different databases and got links from other sites.  To go along with that I decided that we should try to promote using YouTube.  This company is a manufacturing company that deals with automation.  So in order to get the best results I linked the video to their homepage and I embedded links into the text with keywords as well.  This not only had potential to drive traffic to the homepage but also got people to look at their product and engineering.  Furthermore, as a website or business owner in order to get your Idea out YouTube is a great place to start because you can get 100,000’s of views in a day.

YouTube making the Job Search more efficient…

There is so many tools that you tube has in order to help people finding the right job. Now days is hard to find jobs or even to get an interview, because the high competition out there. Some of the tools that you tube has is the Video Interviewing, which is using a video conferencing technology to interview applicant’s all over U.S. I think this a very cool tool, because its hard for applicant’s to travel far away for interviews . Another helpful tool is to Post your Resume using you tube. This tool is becoming more popular for employers, and they are able to look for the most qualified applicants for their jobs. It is more effective to look a video resume for employers, because they would get a better sense of who you are and also its better than a paper resume. YouTube: One Big Nerdy Group-Hug

_____________

stars

YouTube, digg, stumbleupon: what do they all have in common? They need team players to use them. What team you ask? I’ll call it “Team Internet.” I still remember vividly my coach screaming that we were a team. “Work as one, win as one” **Cough Lose as One**. There were always those few slackers on the team who never gave it their all, and often I fell into that category. However, little has changed, and I am a freeloader on Team Internet.

So where’s this going you may ask? How does being on a team deal with YouTube? What on earth is Team Internet? Everyone knows the 5 star rating system. Hotels, cars, girls, and videos are all put to the test of the 5 or 10 star system. This system however is inherently based upon the teamwork within team internet. Without working together, none of the above websites would still exist. So the question remains: why am I so lazy and such a freeloader that I have never ever ever rated a youtube video after watching. After all, I sort my videos by highest rated, and that means I am taking advantage of the system which I have a semi-obligation to as a Web 2.0 Team-member. But even greater than the question of why I have never rated a video is the question of why anyone else actually does it.

There is some sort of team mentality, collaboration, nerdy group-hug thing going on that I cannot wrap my head around. What obligation does anyone have to YouTube? Why do we give it our time and play its game? Maybe I’m a selfish freeloader, using and abusing the system I am dependent on, but I still fall asleep once a year with these questions running through my head.

The Evolution of YouTube: history of the world’s fasting growing website!

YouTube was founded by three former PayPal employees who realized the need for a decent service that made the process of uploading, watching and sharing videos hassle-free. The story goes is they were at a party and video-taped a clip they wanted to share with their friends but didn’t know how to share it. Thus they created a website that would solve this problem, so they saw a need and fulfilled it. They registered the domain YouTube.com on February 15th, 2005 and developed the site over the following months from a garage in Menlo Park. In May 2005 they launched in a public beta, and in November, YouTube made its debut with an $3.5 million of funding from Sequoia Capital.

To start, these entrepreneurs had great ideas for how to attract people to the site initially. To get a decent start and attract the initial crowd they were looking for — teenagers, college students, hobbyists, film-makers — they came out with a contest that promised to give out one iPod Nano to a random member each day, which ran for two months. This contest worked on a point-based system, for example one point was rewarded for signing up, one for inviting others, another one for posting a video, etc. The more the points you gained, the higher the chance of winning you had. This was a significant action that got YouTube noticed by the masses and gave it a headstart as per the signups.

The result of these entrepreneurs hard work was becoming the world’s fastest growing website: YOUTUBE.

Ahmadinejad blogging?

Yep, it’s true. Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is BLOGGING!

This is the final nail in the coffin, blogging is now mainstream if Iran’s president is doing it!

The blog is available in English or Arabic. The comments show what country you are from. If you comment please don’t be like the majority of stupid American’s commenting and just mindlessly name call. Ask real questions and make good intellectual points.

Most of us should disagree with him but he is actually quite honest on the blog and seems to respond well to criticism. There are always two sides to what you hear in the media and this is a chance to hear it straight form the horse’s mouth.

Caveat: some or most of the blog may be propaganda but then again, so is most of our media.

There is a bit of irony here too, as he has imposed severe censorship on his own people blogging.
